Understanding Fear & Phobias
Fear is a natural protective response. It helps us recognise potential danger and prepare to respond.
Sometimes, however, a fear response can become connected to a particular situation, object or experience even when the immediate level of danger does not match the intensity of the response.
Over time, anticipation, avoidance and repeated emotional reactions can reinforce the pattern. You may understand logically that you are safe while still experiencing a powerful automatic response.
The aim is not to remove your natural ability to recognise danger. It is to help you develop greater choice and a more appropriate response when an old fear pattern is no longer useful.

How Clinical Hypnotherapy Can Support Change
A personalised approach focused on understanding your response, developing resources and creating more helpful choices.

Understand the Pattern
Explore how the fear response is triggered, what maintains it and the thoughts, emotions, physical responses and behaviours connected to it.

Access Resources
Develop calmer internal states and reconnect with existing strengths, resources and experiences of feeling safe and capable.

Rehearse New Responses
Use hypnosis, imagery, mental rehearsal and appropriate NLP approaches to practise responding differently and strengthen new patterns.
What Can Hypnotherapy Support?
Fears and phobias can involve many different situations, objects and experiences. Your sessions are tailored to your particular response rather than simply the label attached to the fear.
Below are some of the most common, but there are so many more we can deal with:

Fear of Flying

Develop calmer responses around air travel and greater confidence before, during and after flying.

Fear of Heights

Work with the automatic responses associated with heights and develop greater calm and control.

Fear of Spiders

Reduce the intensity of automatic fear responses and develop a more balanced response to triggers.

Fear of Public Speaking

Build confidence and develop calmer responses when speaking, presenting or being the focus of attention.
How Change Happens
Fear responses can become learned and reinforced. Change involves creating new experiences and strengthening more useful responses.

Trigger
A situation, thought, image or sensation activates the established response.

Automatic Response
Thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and behaviours can happen rapidly and feel automatic.

New Choices
Therapeutic work creates opportunities to experience and rehearse different ways of responding.
Reinforcement

Practice and real-life experience can strengthen confidence and make the new response increasingly familiar.
